This is done with a shuttle but i had to unwind the shuttle and pass it through the rings needed then rewind the shuttle to tat the ring. It is a bit fiddley but i think it is worth it.
Ginny, you can do this by using a needle as s shuttle - (not needle tatting). There's only a small amount of thread needed for each ring, so it's possible. I've had to do that with the Corona Doily, because the last join was impossible for me with a shuttle. If I were tatting at the moment, I'd try it! - but I'm having a sabbatical - lol. Work out how much thread you need for each ring, and just thread a tapestry needle and pretend it's a shuttle.

It's glorious!!! My daughter loves the bookmark so it was worth it. Do it again? Maybe not.
